FLORENCE HIGHLIGHTS BY BULLET TRAIN

Florence is more beautiful than Rome.

In the distant past, when we travelled to Florence from Rome for the first time, our first impressions upon approaching Piazza del Duomo were a genuine "What on earth?!" moment. You will have the same impressions. Think entering another world.

What makes Florence so extraordinary? Piazza del Duomo is the most impressive square in Europe. The Accademia and Uffizi galleries in Florence, the Vatican Museums, and the Louvre in Paris are equals.

Our Florence tours from Rome have been rather long in the making. Florence Highlights by Bullet Train is our founding journey from Rome to the birthplace of the Renaissance.

On this full day trip from Rome to Florence, you will arrive in the capital of Tuscany refreshed and ready to experience the beauty of art, after a comfortably fast bullet train ride (95 minutes, 145 miles).

Our Florence highlights focus on guided tours in galleries that capture the essence of Florentine culture. Embrace art and antiquities that rival anything you have seen in Rome.

Magnitudinous works in the Uffizi include Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and "La Primavera", Michelangelo's "Doni Tondo", "Bacchus" by Caravaggio and Titian's "Venus of Urbino", but the sheer volume of priceless art eclipses any one single painting.

Likewise in the Accademia, where Michelangelo's "David" attracts almost as many annual visitors as the Colosseum, but the Hall of the Colossus and Hall of the Prisoners (Slaves) will also inspire.

Michelangelo's slaves were destined for the Tomb of Pope Julius II in Rome's San Pietro in Vincoli, a story told on Magic of Michelangelo, our popular private Michelangelo tour. Of the six slaves, the Rebellious Slave and the Dying Slave have been in the Louvre since 1794. You will see the other four slaves in Florence.

Florence Cathedral is vast, a magnificent structure, testament to the remarkable Renaissance heritage handed down to us by luminaries who changed the relationship between man and art forever.

Climbing Brunelleschi's dome, better known as the Florence Cathedral Dome Climb, is arguably one of the most gratifying experiences in Italy. Unlike St. Peter's Dome Climb (551 steps), there is no elevator. There are 463 steps between you and the views.

In addition to climbing the dome, you will be able to visit the Baptistery of San Giovanni, climb Giotto's Bell Tower (another 414 steps), and explore the ancient crypt of Santa Reparata (early Christian Florence).

On the bullet train back to Rome, reflect upon your time spent amongst the greatest concentration of universally renowned works of art in the world.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Rated 5 / 5 by Harry M on May 2nd, 2024  Brilliant day from start to finish. We more or less saw all of Florence historic centre and all the major places of art. For us it was much more beautiful than Rome, but there are many places in Rome that must be seen too.

Rated 5 / 5 by Diane L on August 22nd, 2018  Florence is magical and we were amazed by the knowledge of our local guide in the two galleries, Matteo. We were also amazed by how soon we arrived in Florence from Rome. We are still struggling to adequately describe the beauty of Florence and will definitely return one day. Thanks to In Rome Tours for everything, we were very satisfied with our day.
