 Enter the mighty Colosseum, a monument to the brutality of our kind, and see where gladiators fought and died. It's one of the Seven Wonders of the World and surely the most famous.

 This is a first entrance ticket to the Icon of Rome. After an hour or so inside the Colosseum, spread your wings and ascend the Palatine Hill before or after roaming the ruins of ancient Rome.

 Soon thereafter, not far from the tourist hotspots of the Colosseum and Roman Forum, explore another world where perfectly preserved relics reveal the reality of life in antiquity.

 There are several undisturbed alcoves hidden away near the Colosseum, but none more special than this underground compound, partially buried beneath a minor basilica that has stood for almost 1,600 years.

 Each room and every chamber is replete with the most beautiful frescoes this side of Herculaneum. If you want to avoid other people, this is your private space, shelter from the storm, after full immersion exploration of the Icon of Rome and ruined temples.

Had we not booked this activity we'd have missed it. There were literally no tourists near us after the Colosseum. Amazing day.
